Scope and Contents note Exhibition banners were displayed in the museum and outdoors around University Circle and downtown Cleveland to publicize current and upcoming major exhibitions. Most banners are made of vinyl although some of the earlier ones are canvas. Several are nylon or cloth. They have been rolled on cardboard tubes with unbuffered tissue paper to protect them. Cleveland Museum of Art exhibition comment books collection

The museum began providing visitors the opportunity to comment on special exhibitions and permanent gallery installations in the 1990s. Comments are random musings and drawings. Some are not related to the museum at all but merely comments left because of the convenience of the books.Comment books were replaced by more formal questionnaires by the museum marketing department in 2011.
